Neumann SM69

Neumann SM69

A classic stereo microphone using the K68 vintage capsules found on a few other earlier versions of Neumann microphones.  During its lifetime this microphone was widely used in professional orchestra recording throughout the 1970 and 1980’s until replaced by the USM 69.  The biggest visual difference is the polar pattern selector changing from the box (SM69) to the microphone (USM 69)... in addition to the usual enhancements as well as the SM 69 being tube-powered.
This microphone is from MSU Recording Services and has been linked back to an original purchase from a Neumann importer.  WKAR Radio has used the SM69 to record Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and the mic still does to this day.
My personal experience with this microphone has never been bad.  In fact, considering I’m a big omni fan, this is one of the few non-omnis I loved listening to orchestra with.
