Neumann M147

Neumann M147

I’m digging back a little bit, and I don’t think these models were tubed with an external box.  The mic is a variable pattern, side addressed tubed condenser.  In any event, these microphones were classic Neumanns and were only used in the studio.  While I have marimba as a possible use listed, this was only because of an engineer Brock Mormon who mixed the Center’s percussion ensemble disc used two of these mics above the marimba.  My experience has been primarily with piano.

Also the mic that sits on David Letterman’s desk.
