Ribbon. This strange looking microphone has been around for many years. Originally used in BBC broadcasting as an announcer microphone, the properties of this ribbon give very warm and present sounds.
Ribbons are a tiny piece of washboard-like metal, super thin, which vibrates between two very large magnets. This microphone is therefore extremely sensitive to air movement, or vibration.
You will rarely see this microphone being used in a concert. Live concerts are no place for delicate objects. I use this exclusively on female voices (and often tenor) in recording sessions.
